Plant this Brunnera ais re great spring all-arounder for shadier spots, with bright, blue flowers and heart-shaped leaves. There are many eye-catching cultivars, including the green and cream-splotched B macrophylla ‘Hadspen Cream’, silvery ‘Looking Glass,’ and silver-etched ‘Jack Frost.’
Try this. Stooling is a method used to cut willows, white-stemmed bramble (Rubus cockburnianus), and dogwoods, again difficult in spring to set off the boom of younger stems. Now is the time to do it: reduce all stems directly above the bottom with a sharp pair of secateurs or a pruning noticed. Repeat every year.
