The pass came in the wake of nine fatalities in residential fires in Cass County in 2018.
Kitchell stated the new system can be evolved via Beattie and Mittica and is a superb first step in better heart prevention.
“We need to do more to protect the lives of all our citizens, but in particular kids,” Kitchell said. “This isn’t the answer to each difficulty related to heart prevention. However, it’s far from the first step. We can’t afford to lose the momentum gained through volunteer efforts to make certain that everyone who lives in our network has a smoke detector or detectors warning them in the event of a fire.”

According to Indiana State Code, a home has to have at least one purposeful smoke detector set up outdoors in each bedroom and on each level of the home, including basements, cellars, and livable attics.

In the case of a landlord, they may be chargeable for the installation and the replacement or restoration of a required smoke detector (within two days after the occupant has given written notice).
“We had nine fatalities in residence fires in 2018,” stated Kitchell. “We ought to do a better job of not only promoting proper smoke detector setup and practices but making sure that every home and businesses have functioning detectors within the proper locations.”
The fatality rate for fires in Cass County over the past 12 months became 26 times the national average according to capita.
Smoke detector blitzes, inclusive of one associated with Logansport Reimagined, led to hundreds of installations in Logansport and rural Cass County thank you in the element to the efforts of the Logansport Fire Department and Cass County Fire District 1.
